The Pier

 

The Pier is located in the air-conditioned former aristocratic palace in the center of

Mainz. The conference rooms are a 6-minute walk away from Hotel Hammer.

Follow Schottstraße to the southeast and turn right into Gärtnergasse, which you

then follow until you reach The Pier building.

If you are traveling by public transport, you can take the following bus lines to

If you are traveling by car, you can enter "Mittlere Bleiche" as your destination in the navigation system, as soon as you have turned into the destination street, the entrance to the venue’s underground car park is located directly after 20 m on the right-hand side. The nearest public parking garage is the "Schillerplatz" in Schillerstraße, directly next to the Proviantmagazin, approximately—300 m on foot from The Pier.

Recent Research and New Approaches on Early and High Middle Ages

20-22 November 2024

The colloquium "Recent Research and New Approaches on Early and High Middle Ages" will take place from November 20-22 as part of the "Mainz History Talks". At the invitation of Prof. Dr. Ludger Körntgen, medievalists from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and Israel will come together to discuss problems from various areas of political history, church and legal history as well as the history of culture and mentality in the early and high Middle Ages. A particular focus will be on the development of previously neglected or new methodological approaches to much-discussed sources or source genres. The focus will not be on elaborate research contributions but on the presentation and discussion of current issues and project ideas.

Recent Research and New Approaches on Early and High Middle Ages

November 18th - 20st, 2021, Mainz

Scholars from Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, the Netherlands and Switzerland will meet in Mainz to present their recent research or future plans in an encouraging atmosphere of discussion and interchange. The focus will not be on highly elaborated research but on work-in-progress and innovative ideas. The schedule will give enough time for presentation and discussion within the audience but also for coffee breaks, face-to-face-dialogues and informal communication after lunch or dinner.
